Tom Rooney and leaders from the Vets for Freedom PAC met with local veterans this morning for breakfast at the American Legion Hall in Tequesta. Tom and Pete Hegseth of Vets for Freedom PAC discussed the issues facing our veterans as well as the War on Terror. After breakfast the Rooney for Congress bus tour began. On Saturday morning the Rooney for Congress bus will head to Labelle for breakfast and then to Charlotte County for several stops including the Farmers Market, and Oktoberfest.
Today Candidate Tom Rooney launched another commercial in his campaign for Florida’s 16th Congressional District.The spot titled “The Future” will run on broadcast television across the entire 16th district.
The commercial addresses how voters are tired of being misled by career politicians and Tom’s resolve to improve the economy and create new jobs.The spot also discusses Tom’s pledge to fight for seniors and veterans, and to not raise taxes.Tom Rooney will bring common sense leadership to Washington to tackle the challenges we face today.
On Friday Candidate Tom Rooney addressed the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches about his bid for Florida’s 16th Congressional District.
Tom spoke and took questions from the crowd of over 400 at the Forum Club luncheon and discussed the important issues facing our nation.
“It’s an honor to speak here today and I thank the members of the Forum Club for the opportunity,” said Tom Rooney.“I have been running for Congress for over a year and a half and working to spread my message of bringing new honest leadership to Washington.I decided to run for Congress to make this country a better place for my children.Washington is broken – but America is strong, together we can work to lower taxes and create new jobs to improve the lives of the people of Florida.”
Martin County Sheriff Robert Crowder has endorsed Tom Rooney in his bid for Florida’s 16th Congressional District.
“I look forward to working with Tom Rooney in service to the people of Martin County and the 16th Congressional District of Florida,” said Sheriff Crowder.
Sheriff Robert Crowder has had a long and distinguished career in law enforcement. In 1992 Sheriff Crowder was elected Sheriff of Martin County. In July 2003, Sheriff Crowder was elected to serve as the President of the Florida Sheriff’s Association.
“I am thankful for Sheriff Crowder’s support and I look forward to working closely with him to serve the people of Martin County,” said Tom Rooney. “As a former prosecutor I have worked closely with law enforcement and have seen the outstanding job they do each and every day. Today Tom Rooney talked with veterans at the weekly coffee at the DAV Hall in Port St. Lucie. Tom discussed improving healthcare for veterans. He also listened to their needs and concerns with the current VA system. When elected Tom will work tirelessly to support our nation’s veterans.
On Monday Tom spoke at the Road to Victory Rally for Governor Sarah Palin in Estero. Tom discussed cleaning up the mess in Washington and the need for new leadership. He mentioned how Tim Mahoney and the Democrats have failed to stop the out of control spending on Capitol Hill. This week Tom Rooney launched a new television commercial in his bid for Florida’s 16th Congressional District. The spot titled “Enough” discusses how Tom will go to Washington to fight against wasteful spending and work to lower taxes. Tom also discusses working for a comprehensive energy plan that includes drilling.
Today Tom Rooney toured the Florida Power and Light (FPL) St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant on Hutchinson Island.Tom was briefed about the facility and the efficiency of nuclear power, as well as the facility’s safety plans.
“Today was a great experience and I thank the people at FPL for providing me a first hand look at the plant and the opportunity to learn more about nuclear power,” said Tom Rooney.“The St. Lucie Plant is a model for how nuclear energy can be produced in a safe and efficient manner as well as providing quality jobs for the surrounding community.In order for us to gain our energy independence we need to continue to develop nuclear technology as well as other alternatives.Fossil fuels will not last forever and its important we take these steps now for our children.”
Developing nuclear power as well as wind and solar are all part of the energy plan Tom Rooney announced in June.Tom will fight in Washington to cut through bureaucracy to allow for the construction of more clean power facilities throughout the nation.
The St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant began operation in the mid-1970s.The plant is an extremely cost effective producer of electricity, producing about 1,700 million watts of electricity – which can annually power more than a half million homes.
On his first week back on Capitol Hill, after taking a five-week paid vacation , Democrat Tim Mahoney voted to block consideration of a comprehensive energy bill. Sticking to his ways of stonewalling on energy. Mahoney wrapped up his week in Washington by voting to take a three day weekend. When are Tim Mahoney and his Democrat colleagues going to get serious about energy reform and lowering gas prices for Floridians?
